Test your courage and faith in the future by surrendering your sense of control, preconceptions and scalp to the aesthetic choices of an ten-year-old. Students from Mowbray Heights Primary School, trained by professional stylists, invite you to book a FREE haircut at our salon or come and observe the blur of razors, hair colour, scissors and glitter.

Writer laughing like a maniac with a type writer on kneeNeed a well crafted love letter?  Or maybe you just need to end an affair with a terse verse?  Get a team of Tasmanian poets, novelists and journalists to write on your behalf. They are waiting in local cafés to compose your letters either with the modest pen and paper, the good old fashioned manual typewriter or maybe even a feather quill, ink and sealing wax!

The Outhouse

Red outhouse on desert with beautiful blue skyLong Drop. Dunny. Biffy. Thunder box. All uniquely Australian terms for the place where some of our best thinking is done- the outhouse. A participatory research tool and interactive installation, The Outhouse turns the old style photo booth on its head by replacing it with custom built digital media technology.

Norm and Elsie Miller have brought their unique collection of art and artefacts from Gorae West, Victoria to the Junction. On offer are short guided tours of The Miller Collection to one or two people at a time. Expect informed artistic commentary and cultural insights (especially from Norm) and possibly a cuppa. If you're lucky, Elsie will show you her macramé; just don't ask to see the collection Norm keeps under his bed.

Be a part of an exhibition of laughs, levity, chuckles, chortles, snorts, snickers, giggles and guffaws. Walk in, get provoked into hilarity and your performance could be included in a multi-vocal installation of mirth on the final day of Junction 2010.

Wiltja (shelter) is an installation from Warburton, a remote indigenous community that sits between the Gibson and Victoria deserts in WA. Members of the community will be present at the Wiltja in the CBD to address issues about life and culture in the Warburton.

U-Taste Workshops

Glass workshop

Participate in a selection of one-day creative arts workshops designed by the University of Tasmania's School of Visual and Performing Arts from their Bachelor of Contemporary Arts and the Tasmanian Creative Arts Summer School program. Workshops include Studio Glass, Australia Art and Design, Body Ardornment, Drawing in the Landscape and Aboriginal Tasmania: Exploring Placescapes and Cultural Expression.

Venue: The Academy of the Arts, Inveresk Cultural Precinct
