Woven basket by a Tasmanian Aboriginal artistrrala manta manta showcases contemporary Tasmanian Aboriginal craft and design from across the islands of Tasmania. Informed by the historic culture and traditions, and craft techniques and practices of this community rrala manta manta will highlight the diversity of practice including strung necklaces of shells and other natural materials, woven baskets and work in kelp and wood.

Venue: Design Centre, Corner Tamar and Brisbane St

KP11: Producing Communities

KP11: Producing Communities features the works of 11 leading Australian community arts and cultural development organisations. It acknowledges that communities are active participants in developing, (re)defining and producing arts and cultural works. At the heart of the exhibition is the role of community members as active protagonists and not passive subjects in helping construct Australian narratives.

The Oyster's Locale

The Oyster's Locale is a group exhibition of artists whose practice emerges from regional Australia, through both location and concept. The project stems from a premise of 'the world is my oyster but my studio is here' focusing on artists who engage in conversations that cross the boundaries of their chosen locale.

The Knitting Roon

The Knitting Room is an imaginative, colourful collaboration in which an extraordinary team of Tasmanians have stitched, knitted and crocheted a life sized recreation of a 1950's home. The artists have lovingly showcased life when television was a novelty, the wireless was the centre of home entertainment and many homes still relied on the outdoor ‘dunny'.' Visitors to the exhibition will be transported to an era when the young, newly crowned Queen Elizabeth toured Australia and Elvis was king!

TREK Australian Footprints

Kraton

Bamboo structure created by Eko Prawoto

The Kraton exhibition is the result of Indonesian architect Eko Prawoto's residency with the UTAS's School of Architecture and Design. Based around a series of playful provocations concerning urban renewal the exhibition provides a rare opportunity to see inside an innovative research process through models, drawings and journals.
